Years ago, I began reading books by Ron Clark, an educator and motivator in Atlanta, GA. He has had a powerful impact on thousands of kids, been recognized for multiple awards, and made a difference in the field of education. There is even a TV movie about his story!
For the past six years, I have put in several requests for a professional training day at his Academy in Atlanta. http://www.ronclarkacademy.com/Educator-Welcome Recently, Mr. Blevins has made plans to make several trips over the next few years to give all of our interested staff the opportunity to visit this school. The office drew names for the first experience, and I was unfortunately not chosen. However, one of the selected teachers is currently sick and unable to go... guess who was the runner-up? ME! I am so excited for the opportunity and how it will impact my teaching and our classroom. The group is leaving Thursday (tomorrow) at noon and returning Friday night after spending the day at The Ron Clark Academy. Mrs. Buffie will be covering our class during that time. I will leave details plans for her, and I trust the students will enjoy their time together. If you need to make dismissal changes, please contact the office and have the message delivered to Mrs. Buffie. I can't wait to share this experience with your child! Today, we hosted a small health fair for 1st grade. This event connected to Dental Health Month and our story from last week Where Does Food Come From?
We had three special guests visit Sam Houston. Mr. Malone talked to us about how to care for our teeth and the importance of dental care. Dr. Warner taught us about germs, staying healthy, and preventing accidental injury. Ms. Aaron spoke to us about nutrition and had several games and hands-on experiences for us to learn about staying active and healthy. Our cafeteria staff provided a variety of healthy foods and vegetables for us to try as well. Thank you to Heather Ledbetter, our school health coordinator, for her help organizing this event. |
