I love when my kids know I'm cheering for them in and out of our classroom. I love seeing them at ball fields, piano recitals, and soccer games. If your child participates in extra-curricular activities, I'd love to have a schedule. When those events do not conflict with my family's calendar, I'd love to support them outside of school too! Email me important dates and schedules. |

Can you make a duck call with only a straw? Your child can show you how! Check out the Science Bob link for more great ideas.
This week, we talked about how animals communicate. How can you make a duck sound scared? Can he send a warning to his friends? What would a duck sound like if he were happy or lonely? How would using a different size straw change the sound? www.sciencebob.com This week, we explored animal texts. We researched different animals in various books and recorded our information in Popplet and Notability. Check out your child's Seesaw for details from their learning!
Every year I learn from my students. Some years it's perseverance as I watch them overcome challenges and face new tasks with courage and excitement. Some years it's grace as I watch them easily forgive others for thoughtless actions. This year it might be kindness...friendship...and love. My students offer smiles, hugs, and kind words continuously!
Everyone is accepted and encouraged by their peers. A helping hand is offered without request. Positive support and a comforting touch are given effortlessly. I am in awe by the love expressed so genuinely by my kiddos. Thank you for your example! I want to be like you when I grow up! I am not exactly sure how old this tree was on our playground, but it had seen a lot of Smokies over the years. It had provided shade on hot days, leaves to crunch in the fall, and sticks for snowman arms in the winter. Several years ago, this tree was struck by lightning. It had slowly started to die and break apart, many branches had fallen and every storm brought more debris. Over the summer MCS contacted a tree service company to remove the dead tree. Pree's decided to leave a stump for the kids to play on. So many of our Smokies have already enjoyed exploring the trunk and remaining bark, climbing to the top, and jumping off. What a fun nature play structure! We love the new addition to our playground! Is your child interested in digital games? Do they need to practice math skills? Here are some FUN sites to encourage your child to practice math at home! https://www.education.com/game/fish-bowl-addition/ They would also enjoy Greg Tang's math site for math games covering various skills. How about recognizing number patterns? Check out these games! http://gregtangmath.com/numtanga Want to get faster at facts? http://gregtangmath.com/mathlimbo Every day, your child has 15 minutes of independent reading. They are asked to choose a book on their level and find a comfortable spot to read. A group of 4-6 kids is encouraged to spread out in two reading corners or various stools and benches around the room. No doubt, the aquarium stool is our most popular choice these days. The perfect spot to relax, focus, and share a book with a few fish friends! Recycled office chairs and beanbags make a comfy spot. Add some puppets for a reading buddy and you've got a great place to enjoy a book! I hope all my students find a love for reading, can get lost in stories, and continue to be motivated readers for a lifetime!
