Mr. Blevins is a community helper! Today our special guest was Mr. Blevins! We see him within our school and throughout the day, but today we took time to discuss his responsibilities and the importance of his job. Mr. Blevins talked to us about safety, budgets, maintenance, and teacher needs. He also told us the most important people he works for are our STUDENTS. He makes his decisions based on what is BEST for our kids! Thank you for your service, Mr. Blevins, and for making the time to come talk to us. What does your child remember about our visit with Mr. Blevins?

Test and redesign! Label your sketch and gather your materials! Our four finalists and two best designs for cleaning small spills!
This week, we are designing mini-mops to help Mr. Jeff, our janitor. What materials did your child choose? Will they redesign tomorrow? They will test their mops tomorrow and have the opportunity to redesign if desired. What changes will they make? On Friday, we will see which mop cleans up small spills the best! The dwellings were complete and the storm came! The wind, the rain, and even some lightning (flashlight suggestion made by Saisei!) hit our neighborhood today. Only one out of five Mr. Cottonballs survived the storm. We will continue to work on design challenges throughout the year. We will learn from previous experiences and choices. What changes would your child make if they redesigned their house? And the winners were... Bryce, Amauri, and Kaylee!
Today we explored and learned to use a new app called Book Creator. We are continuing to work on narrowing and staying on topic in writing. Our books are about a stormy day. Are you curious how creative we will get? Is your child's story going to be scary, exciting, or funny? We can't wait to complete our books and share them with you. Book Creator allows us to practice sentence development by adding text. It also gives us multiple ways to add illustrations to our stories. The best part is editing and publishing our work! Do you know why it rains? When water droplets grow heavy enough within a cloud, gravity pulls them down as raindrops. Today, we tested a "cloud". How many drops of water do you think a regular cottonball can hold before it releases raindrops? We counted 178 drops! Ask you child about our experiment! My job is so AWESOME! We use music, games, technology, and more to make our learning fun! Check out this clip from our phonics warm-up- Why would I want to be anywhere else? I love our class! |
