Maryville firefighters came today to talk to us about fire safety. They reminded us to change the batteries in our smoke detectors, not be afraid of firefighters in case of an emergency, and talk to our families about an escape plan. Have you talked to your child about how to get out of the house? Where is your family's meeting place?
This week, we are using the app Koma Koma to create clay animations. We started by using our story about Dr. Seuss. We talked about his ability to rhyme! We worked with a partner to think of rhyming words and then created a script for our character to act out. We built a wire skeleton with paperclips and covered it with clay to make our figure. Next, we made our figure act out our rhyming script. Look for our creations on Seesaw and listen to our rhymes! What a fun project that challenged us in so many ways! Writing Scripts! Creating Clay Animations!
After a week of studying A Musical Day, our class has discovered different sounds and techniques for making music. We have explored the connection between music and emotions. How does music make you feel? We made drums, guitars, and maracas. We used these instruments to create and change moods. Today, we made repairs to our outdoor music wall. This wall of recycled materials was originally created by my 2013 class. Unfortunately, it has been abused by after school visitors. Several items have been destroyed or removed. We added 7 new pieces today and cleaned up old damage. We are excited to play on our wall during recess and show others the power of music.
Today we made maracas out of different materials using various fillers. Some of us chose rice while others chose different variations of beans depending on the pitch or tone we were trying to create. Our containers varied from cans to cups. Each item produced a different sound. Then we used our instruments to create a mood or feeling. Could we make a scary sound with our maracas? We made a happy emotions when we sang our school song and shook our maracas. Check it out!
https://youtu.be/ZP8kWjhObwg We explored more musical emotions today! How can music effect your mood? Does the pitch, volume, or tempo change your feeling? Can you create an emotion with your instrument? Today, we made guitars with boxes, tubes and rubber bands. We used our handmade instruments to express different emotions and create different moods. Ask your child how to make someone feel scared, excited, or sad with a guitar. Thank you, Amy Vagnier for sharing the story of Jack and the Robbers with our class today. We had so much fun listening to your many accents and animals sounds. We loved your expression, enthusiasm, and willingness to share. We can't wait to make our own puppets of your characters and start creating our own stories. You are an inspiration for us to READ, READ, READ and imagine new stories. The more the merrier, right?!
Congratulations to Amauri, our key winner for Speak with Good Purpose! Thank you for encouraging your classmates and making sure your words build people up!
